What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice concerned with the interaction of people with places with the present time. According to Feng Shui theory, our physical, energetic and psychological expression both embody and are reflected by the spaces we inhabit. Space mirrors mind, and vice versa. This unseen relationship can be understood, and manipulated, using classical Feng Shui*
Contemporary application
I have seen classical Feng Shui have a dramatic and often immediate impact on the lives and wellbeing of people and businesses. Here are some some examples of situations where Feng Shui can help;
- bringing profound, transformative awareness of places and their relationship to occupants
- creating, peaceful and nourishing spaces to live and work
- improving health, wellbeing and relationships
- attracting new opportunities and income streams
- finding compatible buildings for homes, creative projects or business ventures
- better outcomes for interior design, architecture or property development
- staging a home for an efficient sale or let, while increasing value
- town planning, landscaping and alterations to the built environment
- increasing productivity, creativity and wellbeing amongst employees
- problem solving with regards to the particular goals of an individual or group
My approach and the process of a consultation
Classical Feng Shui is rooted in energetic observation, careful symbolic analysis and spiritual insight. The best approach is, therefore, a mix of rigorously applied classical analysis with precise, energetic insights into a space. After the initial evaluation, interventions should be designed creatively and with a combination of rooted metaphorical thinking, and technical understanding of a building or landscape.
I prefer to employ an embodied, meditative approach to my work - hand drafting charts, drawings and maps, and, wherever possible, walking the land and using particular Qi gong methods to assess the energy of a place and time. My interpretations are as precise as possible while remaining open and evolving - acknowledging the reciprocal and the interconnected nature of all things. There are no fixed rules (contrary to many modern Feng Shui methods and books). although there are many time-tested principles that can be factored in..
The nature of every space and every person is unique - and bringing awareness as to how they are linked can be a fascinating and insightful process that is transformative in itself. My advice is always tailored to each situation, including consideration of time cycles. Whilst this approach may at times seem complex or opaque, the interventions are nearly always simple, practical and to-hand. They might include
- placement of furniture, objects and plants
- altering the use of particular spaces and settings
- setting new intentions or adjusting daily rhythms
- reorganisation / decluttering of personal belongings
- landscaping; redecoration or internal remodelling (if there is scope)
Practicalities of a consultation
My Feng Shui services vary according to the level of my involvement and the scale and nature of the project. Ideally i would visit your site in person - although I can access the energetics of a space remotely.
The entry point for any standard residential survey is a high-level Feng Shui assessment, which is drafting work I would have to do whether I visit your site or not. During this assessment I will conduct a full survey of your space, creating hand drawn Qi maps covering the local environment right down to individual rooms; taking all the necessary measurements, tracing Qi sources and energy lines, and plotting natal charts for the key inhabitants. I will then be in a position to make an initial analysis, and share my findings with you.
Provided travel and accommodation are covered, I can also make a site visit which will allow me to validate my findings, get a feel for the spaces and work with you in person. I also work with interior designers and architects directly, and can liaise with other parties if needed.
This initial high-level survey can be booked via the button below. After the assessment, there may be more in-depth work needed such as assistance with design of new builds and extensions. This work - as well as full written and illustrated reports are an extra charge and will be quoted after assessment is complete.
If you would like to first meet and discuss your situation, I am more than happy to have an Initial Meeting with you so that you can to know each-other and chat through your needs. These sessions are free and can be booked below.
As a designer, I would highly recommend Ryan's services. He has fantastic communication skills and is able to simplify the complex depths of Feng Shui in to real and understandable concepts. I found the experience of working with him both educational and inspirational.

Many thanks for doing the Feng shui assessment. i very much enjoyed the consultation, and the report is proving very helpful - especially as I work with the architects to bring the plans together

Ryan gave a thorough Feng Shui consultation on our retail/restaurant project in Mayfair, London. He gave some extremely interesting insights and it was especially useful to see how the business and project could be enhanced by balancing different materials, colours, activities and objects relating to the varying elements present. The report he produced was both extremely detailed and highly digestible at the same time.
Andrea Fenner, Flux Interiors
"Ryan’s background in both BaZi and Feng Shui is both deep and incredibly broad. His analytical work felt fully embodied and considered, and totally trustworthy. Even poetic. Ryan is generous and friendly and funny, and it made the time working together feel more like a collaboration, and always very comfortable. In the end he sent me a beautiful 36-page document to refer to and reflect upon, much of it hand drawn, as well as many meaningful suggestions for things I can do to continue to improve the energetics here and in my life. I totally recommend Ryan, whether for BaZi or Feng Shui. But if you can swing it, do both!"
Judith Hooper, Connecticut
My recent Feng Shui consultation with Ryan was a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking experience. He wears his knowledge lightly; never trying to impress you with technicalities, explaining everything in a clear and simple way. You are however, left in no doubt about his mastery of his subject.
Fiona Roberston, Cornwall
I cannot express how much I enjoy working with and being guided by Ryan. His knowledge and expertise is second to none. His passion and energy is amazing. Many thanks Ryan.
