What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice concerned with the interaction of people with places with the present time. According to Feng Shui theory, our physical, energetic and psychological expression both embody and are reflected by the spaces we inhabit. As Winston Churchill famously said, "We shape our buildings, and thereafter they shape us". This invisible relationship between ourselves and our surroundings can be mapped -and tracked through time - using Chinese metaphysics (Feng Shui and Ba Zi).

How and why is Feng Shui practiced?

Feng Shui  can have dramatic and often immediate impacts on the lives and wellbeing of people and businesses. Contemporary applications of Feng Shui include:

  • creating peaceful and nourishing spaces to live and work
  • improving health, prosperity and relationships
  • attracting new opportunities or income streams
  • finding compatible buildings for homes, creative projects or business ventures
  • better outcomes for interior design, architecture or property development
  • staging a home for an efficient sale or let, while increasing value
  • town planning, landscaping and alterations to the built environment
  • increasing productivity, creativity and wellbeing amongst employees
  • problem solving with regards to the particular goals of an individual or group

Feng Shui is derived from both scientific observation and spiritual insight, and, as such, occupies the mysterious space between definition and divination.  The best approach is, therefore, a mix of rigorously applied metaphysical analysis combined with metaphorical thinking, creative association and a rooted imagination.  Whilst the approach may be, by turns, complex or opaque, the solutions are nearly always simple and practical. These adjustments might include

  • landscaping; redecoration or internal remodelling
  • placement of furniture, objects and plants
  • altering the use of particular spaces and settings
  • setting new intentions or adjusting daily rhythms
  • reorganisation / decluttering of personal belongings

Although there is a wash of generalised Feng Shui solutions to be found online or in books, working with a trained classical Feng Shui practitioner is essential to find the correct resolutions appropriate to your unique situation.

What can I expect from a consultation?

My Feng Shui services vary according to the level of my involvement and the nature of the project. The entry point is a high-level Feng Shui assessment, which is drafting work I would have to do whether I visit your site or not. During this assessment I will conduct a full survey of your space, creating hand drawn Qi maps covering the local environment right down to individual rooms; taking all the necessary measurements, tracing Qi sources and dragon lines, and plotting natal charts for the key inhabitants.  I will then be in a position to make an initial analysis, and share my findings with you. This might work as a standalone consultation, but from there, more complex needs can be met with further services that can be tailored to your needs and situation or online services, I can go on to create a Padlet pin board with illustrations, notes, ideas and a forum for us to exchange ideas and updates outside of the video sessions. Provided travel and accommodation are covered, I can also make a site visit which will allow me to validate my findings, get a feel for the spaces and work with you in person. I also work with interior designers and architects directly, and so can liaise with other parties if needed.

The high-level assessment can be booked via the button below. I look forward to working with you!

As a designer, I would highly recommend Ryan's services.  He has fantastic communication skills and is able to simplify the complex depths of Feng Shui  in to real and understandable concepts.    I found the experience of working with him both educational and inspirational.

Many thanks for doing the Feng shui assessment.  i very much enjoyed the consultation, and the report is proving very helpful - especially as I work with the architects to bring the plans together

Ryan gave a thorough Feng Shui consultation on our retail/restaurant project in Mayfair, London. He gave some extremely interesting insights and it was especially useful to see how the business and project could be enhanced by balancing different materials, colours, activities and objects relating to the varying elements present.  The report he produced was both extremely detailed and highly digestible at the same time.

"Ryan’s background in both BaZi and Feng Shui is both deep and incredibly broad. His analytical work felt fully embodied and considered, and totally trustworthy. Even poetic. Ryan is generous and friendly and funny, and it made the time working together feel more like a collaboration, and always very comfortable. In the end he sent me a beautiful 36-page document to refer to and reflect upon, much of it hand drawn, as well as many meaningful suggestions for things I can do to continue to improve the energetics here and in my life. I totally recommend Ryan, whether for BaZi or Feng Shui. But if you can swing it, do both!"

Judith Hooper,  Connecticut

My recent Feng Shui consultation with Ryan was a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking experience.  He wears his knowledge lightly; never trying to impress you with technicalities, explaining everything in a clear and simple way.  You are however, left in no doubt about his mastery of his subject.

Fiona Roberston, Cornwall

I cannot express how much I enjoy working with and being guided by Ryan. His knowledge and expertise is second to none. His passion and energy is amazing. Many thanks Ryan.
